POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Academic Support Supervisor and Center Coordinators, the Career Pathways Specialist is responsible for creating, implementing, and supporting existing high-quality Career Pathways CTE programming for youth involved in PSSL's Cottonwood and Granite Park Jr High Afterschool Programs. The Career Pathways Specialist also acts as a tutor and mentor to youth from diverse backgrounds to provide a safe, responsible, well-supervised space for young people to explore new pathways to college and careers, with an emphasis in the STEM field.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1. Lead and supervise groups of youth ages 12-18 in Promise South Salt Lake afterschool programs:
- Provide academic assistance, Career and Technical Education (CTE) activities, and tutoring for youth in the programs (afterschool, summer, and family programming).
- Plan and lead CTE activities designed to increase youth skills in STEM and/or college and career preparation.
- Assist youth with tools and technology needed (i.e. calculators, textbooks, computers, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Zoom) to complete school work.
- Address behavior needs in the afterschool program using appropriate behavior management techniques, problem solving skills, and functional understanding of youth development.
2. Assist Assistant Coordinator, Center Coordinators, and Academic Support Supervisor in reporting requirements:
- Collect accurate attendance and activity participation of youth.
- Communicate successes and challenges regarding youth to direct supervisors and in reports as necessary.
3. Additional responsibilities:
- Arrive on time for scheduled shifts and all required staff meetings and trainings
- Develops resources and opportunities through the City and outside organizations interfacing with various city departments and partners such as the STEM Action Center of Utah, Utah Afterschool Network, and local Colleges and Universities.
- Supports in ensuring proper utilization of the Career Pathways Grant.
- Work at city-sponsored events (as conditions allow), typically held every 2 months on Friday evenings or Saturday mornings.
